What is special about Mish Mash Music?

  • Emphasis on creativity — the children are encouraged to make music using lots of different instruments in their own way. They are free to move around and explore the environment, interact and make friends with other little ones…. they don’t have to sit still on your lap (unless they want to)!
  • Unusual songs — Mish Mash uses songs you will hopefully not have come across before, but will quickly become favourites for your child. It draws on the funkiest and most entertaining songs from the best educators around the world from ours, and other cultures.
  • Live music — Mish Mash is run by Ruth and Bernie who are both teachers and musicians, and who both play guitar, flutes, African and steel drums. The children are exposed to fantastic sounds they have never encountered before.
  • Using all the senses — Mish Mash uses all of the little ones’ senses: colourful parachutes, puppets, scarves, props and instruments, dances and action songs ensure that from 4 and a half months upwards, you child can be stimulated and involved in the Mish Mash experience.

All of this is because I want your little one to develop a love of music and self expression, and for you to enjoy the classes too.

To help you see if Mish Mash is right for you, I asked parents to explain why they chose Mish Mash Music and here are some of their answers…

“More fun and informal”

“I love the unusual instruments (drums/metal bells) and the use of songs from other cultures.”

“I was recommended but like it much more than (name of other class removed) as it is more relaxed, fun, welcoming and different”

“Hands on experience — real instruments”

You are “not a chain and therefore… more personal, which is a really great thing. Also. It’s not the same generic nursery rhymes sang everywhere else”

“Different, real instruments, not “wheels on the bus” (not the same nursery rhymes used everywhere else), chilled, educational, funky, friendly.”

“Unique, small group, great instruments, lovely songs.”

“…change from the traditional nursery rhymes and variety of instruments.”

“More personal and unique — good variation from session to session (unlike (name of group removed) which was repetitive.)”
